In the article evaluation process of İslam Medeniyeti Dergisi (Journal of Islamic Civilization), a double-blind peer review principle is applied, whereby neither the author(s) nor the reviewers know each other’s identities. Reviewers cannot communicate directly with the author(s). Instead, reviewers’ evaluation forms, notes added to the manuscript, and revision requests are conveyed to the author(s) by the editors through the journal’s management system.
All publication processes of our journal are carried out via DergiPark.
Manuscripts submitted to the journal must not have been published elsewhere.
There is no submission fee for sending an article to the journal, and no fee is charged for articles accepted for publication.
Manuscripts written in a foreign language are reviewed and corrected (if necessary) by language editors assigned to that language before being sent for peer review. Translated articles are sent to language and subject experts for evaluation in terms of faithfulness to the original text, appropriate use of key concepts, and correct usage of language. Translations that receive negative evaluations from experts are not published.
Each submission is checked by the editor for compliance with the journal’s publication principles, academic writing rules, citation system, and possible plagiarism.
Authors must remove any information (names, affiliations, etc.) from the manuscript text before uploading it to the system. Because personal information can be embedded in the file properties of Word documents (including footnotes and other ancillary text), those details must either be located and deleted from the file properties.
The Editorial Board reviews submitted works in terms of the journal’s publication principles, scope, scientific content, and formatting. Submissions passing this preliminary review are assigned an Editor.
The Editor sends the manuscript to at least two reviewers for evaluation, following double-blind peer-review rules. Reviewers are selected from among individuals who have authored a doctoral thesis, book, or article in the relevant field. Care is taken to ensure that reviewers are not from the same institution as the author and are not part of the journal management or Editorial Board.
Reviewers must fill out the online review form and make corrections on the Word document with Track Changes enabled. They should provide their comments and opinions directly on the text and then upload the revised Word file to the system. Authors, in turn, must also enable Track Changes when making revisions and upload the revised file to the system.
Decision Process
One Minor Revision and One Acceptance
If one reviewer recommends Minor Revision and the other Acceptance, the manuscript is returned to the author for revisions. A recommendation for acceptance is then made to the Editorial Board.
One Rejection
If one reviewer rejects the manuscript, it is sent to a third reviewer. The process continues until either two Minor Revisions or an Acceptance decision is obtained. Once two Minor Revisions or an Acceptance are obtained, the manuscript is returned to the author for revisions. If reviewers requesting minor revisions wish to see the manuscript again, it is sent back to them after the revisions. After the final revisions, the manuscript is submitted to the Editorial Board for approval.
One Minor Revision and One Major Revision
If one reviewer recommends Minor Revision and the other Major Revision, the manuscript is returned to the author for revisions. After the author completes these revisions, the manuscript is sent back to the reviewer who requested the Major Revision. The process continues until two Minor Revisions or an Acceptance decision is reached.
Two Rejections
If both reviewers reject the manuscript, the editor recommends a rejection decision to the Editorial Board.
Once the Editorial Board decides a manuscript is publishable, the editor approves publication via the DergiPark system, and the manuscript is published.
Care is taken to select reviewers who are proficient in the relevant foreign language for articles written in that language.
If the author does not agree with the reviewers’ comments, the editor grants the author the right to object and defend their views. The editor facilitates communication between the author and the reviewers while maintaining confidentiality. The peer review process is completed within a maximum of 30 days (20 + 10).
After the review process is completed, the Editor proofreads the manuscript for style and clarity. The proofread manuscript is then sent for typesetting and layout. During the typesetting and layout stage, the manuscript is prepared for publication and is subsequently published.
