Scientific and Ethical Responsibility

Authors submitting to the Journal of Aging and Long-Term Care (JALTC) share full scientific and ethical responsibility for their manuscripts. By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that their work adheres to the highest academic integrity standards and that the submitted content is original, accurate, and free from ethical misconduct.

Upon acceptance, the copyright of the manuscript is transferred to the publisher, while authors retain the right to share their work under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) license.

Authors must strictly adhere to ethical research and publication principles, avoiding the following violations:

• Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data

• Plagiarism, including direct copying and paraphrasing without citation

• Duplicate publication or redundant submission

• Undisclosed conflicts of interest

• Gift, ghost, or honorary authorship

Avoiding Ageism in Scientific Writing

JALTC adheres to inclusive language standards and requires authors to avoid ageist terminology in their manuscripts. The use of language that reinforces stereotypes about aging or older adults must be avoided.

📌 Preferred Terminology:

• Use “older person”, “older people”, “aging adult”, “older population”, “geriatric patient”, or “older patients” instead of "the elderly."
• Avoid using "elderly" as a noun, as it is considered pejorative in many contexts.

📌 Medical and Scientific Language:

• Use “dementia” instead of "senility."
• “Senile dementia of the Alzheimer’s type” is an accepted medical term.

JALTC upholds ethical language standards to ensure research contributions are scientifically accurate and respectful toward all individuals, including older populations. Manuscripts that do not comply with these standards may be returned for revision prior to peer review.

Copyright Transfer Agreement

Upon acceptance of a manuscript, all authors must complete and sign the Copyright Transfer Form, officially transferring the copyright of the work to the publisher. This ensures the exclusive right of first publication in the Journal of Aging and Long-Term Care (JALTC).

JALTC operates under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) license, which allows:

✅ Free access to the published work for researchers, institutions, and the public.

✅ Non-commercial sharing of the article, provided that proper attribution is given.

✅ Authors to archive and share their accepted manuscript in institutional repositories or personal websites after publication.

Restrictions:

❌ The published article cannot be modified, adapted, or commercially used without explicit permission from the publisher.

❌ The manuscript must not be simultaneously submitted to another journal during the review process.

All authors must sign the Copyright Transfer Form before publication. The form must be uploaded to the submission system as a separate document.
