Evaluation Principles

1. The articles submitted to our journal for publication must be original works that have not been published or submitted for publication anywhere else. It must also be approved by each author.
2. After submission to our journal, articles are subjected to similarity check during the preliminary control process. iThenticate software is used for similarity check.
3. Newly submitted articles are first checked by the relevant editors for compliance with the journal's purpose, scope and spelling rules. The editorial board reviews the articles that pass this stage in terms of originality. The articles that are deemed appropriate in line with the recommendations of the editorial board are sent to at least two independent and expert referees to be evaluated in terms of scientific quality.
4. The evaluation process of our journal is carried out by a double blind review system.
5. The Editor-in-Chief ensures that the article evaluation processes are carried out in a fair manner by treating all authors equally regardless of language, religion, race, gender and political opinion.
6. The editor-in-chief prevents potential conflicts of interest between authors, editors and reviewers.
7. The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the final decision on acceptance or rejection of manuscripts.
8. Editors may not intervene in decisions concerning their own work or the work of those with whom they have a relationship of interest.

Preliminary Review and Plagiarism Check
The Editor-in-Chief first reviews the articles submitted to our journal. The Editor-in-Chief forwards the article to the relevant assistant editor for spelling rules and plagiarism check. The assistant editor checks the articles for plagiarism through iThenticate software. The similarity rate of the article subjected to plagiarism check must be less than 20%. Otherwise, the article may be rejected by the editor's decision or a correction may be requested according to the similarity report. Articles that do not comply with the spelling rules are returned to the authors with a request for correction.

Field Editor Review
Field editors examine the introduction and literature, method, findings, conclusion, evaluation and discussion sections of the articles in detail in terms of journal publication policies and scope and originality. As a result of this review, unsuitable manuscripts are returned to the author together with the field editor's evaluation report.

Editorial Board Evaluation Process
Articles deemed appropriate by the field editor are subjected to the editorial board evaluation process. At this stage, the articles are sent to the relevant editorial board members. Editorial board members review the articles in terms of scientific quality and originality. They express their opinions about the articles at the editorial board meeting. At the editorial board meeting, the articles that will be rejected or sent to referee are determined. Conflict of interest declaration is requested from the board members at the editorial board meetings held for article evaluation. Those who have a conflict of interest do not give an opinion about the article.

Referee Evaluation Process
The articles that are deemed appropriate by the editorial board during the preliminary evaluation process are sent to two external referees from Turkey or abroad who have a PhD degree and are experts in their field. If one of the referees gives a negative opinion or presents an inadequate evaluation report, it is sent to the third referee. The referee evaluation process in our journal is carried out in confidentiality according to the principle of double blind refereeing. Reviewers are requested to either indicate their opinions and suggestions on the article or fill in the online peer review form. As a result of their evaluations, the referees may give an opinion on whether the articles are suitable for publication or may request revisions about the articles. Authors are expected to make the necessary revisions in line with the referees' opinions. The revisions are supervised by the field editors. Authors have the right to appeal if they disagree with the referee's opinion. Communication between the author and the referee is provided by the field editors in accordance with the principle of confidentiality.
In order for the articles submitted to our journal to be accepted for publication by the Editor-in-Chief, at least two referees must give a positive opinion.
Book reviews are evaluated by at least two internal referees (relevant field editors and/or editorial board members). For book reviews to be accepted for publication, two internal referees must give a positive opinion.
Reviewers are asked to declare that they will not share any process and documents about the articles they evaluate. In line with the referee evaluations, the final decision on the articles is made by the Editor-in-Chief.

Refereeing Process Principles for Editorial Board's Studies
Original research articles written by the members of the editorial board of Selçuk University Journal of Studies in Turcology are sent to at least two external referees on the basis of blind refereeing. Editorial articles and publication evaluation studies are reviewed by two internal referees. The duty of the relevant editor is suspended from the moment the study is first sent to the journal.

Turkish Language Check
The Editor-in-Chief and field editors examine the articles found suitable for publication in line with the referees' opinions in terms of Turkish language usage and spelling, and request corrections from the authors if deemed necessary.

English Language Check
The articles that have passed the Turkish language control are sent to the English Language Editors with an Extended Summary in English. English language editors request corrections from the authors when they deem necessary.

Layout and Typesetting Processes
The studies that are decided to be published in our journal are made ready for publication by completing the typesetting and layout processes and sent to the author for the control of the typeset version.

Assignment of DOI Number
The Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is a unique access number that allows each work published in electronic media to be identified and accessed. DOI numbers are provided for each study published in our journal or in early view.

Submission of Issues to National and International Indexes and Databases
The documents of the published issue are sent to the relevant indexes and databases from the 15th day following the publication of the issue.
